T’ai Chi with Ann Stocks

T’ai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition, full name ‘T’ai Chi Chuan’ (translated: “Supreme Ultimate fist“) and was performed as a martial art. Today however, T’ai Chi is performed as a mind-body practice that involves a series of slow, flowing exercises that combine movement, meditation, deep breathing and relaxation techniques.

T’ai chi is often called “meditation in motion”: promoting serenity & well being through movement – connecting mind and body. T’ai Chi’s movements are associated with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, whereby movement helps to stimulate the flow of vital energy “chi” which in turn helps to promote healing and bring about well being.

T’ai Chi is very low impact and places minimal stress on muscles and joints and is therefore suitable for everyone, all ages and all fitness levels.  Everyone is welcome; from complete beginners to anyone with prior experience; we never stop learning in the practice of T’ai Chi!  All T’ai Chi movements can be suited and adapted for every individual. Students can  take part seated and benefits are even accessible by visualising the movements.

T’ai Chi is very beneficial, not only to our physical well-being but also our mental and emotional well-being. Some of the many benefits include:

  • Decreased stress, anxiety and depression
  • Improved flexibility and balance
  • Enhances quality of the immune system
  • Helps lower blood pressure
  • Improves overall well-being
  • Helps strengthen the core
  • Helps manage chronic conditions: fibromyalgia, arthritis and ME
