Sophie, our Nutritionist has been building on her 2 year postgraduate Functional Medicine course, completed last September, by attending a two and a half day advanced practice module – Restoring Gastrointestinal Equilibrium: Practical Applications for Understanding, Assessing, and Treating Gut Dysfunction.
Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease and aims to engage both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership.
This module was designed to provide therapists with practical tools and knowledge to improve and restore optimal gastrointestinal function using individualised applications of dietary, lifestyle and nutritional support.
The speakers are highly respected in their fields in the USA:
• Liz Lipski, PHD, CCN, CHN, is board certified in Clinical Nutrition and Holistic Nutrition. She is the director of Doctoral Studies and Education director at Hawthorne University. Liz is also on the faculty of Saybrook University, The Institute for Functional Medicine and the Autism Research Institute. She is the author of Digestive Wellness and Digestive Wellness for children.
• Gerard Mullen, MD, MS, CNSP is medically trained and specializes in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He has held the posts of program director of Gastroenterology, Director of Nutrition Support, Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Associate Professor of Medicine. He’s won numerous awards and his peers have recognized him as being one of “America’s Top Physicians – 2004-2006”
• Patrick Hanaway, MD, is a board certified family physician, integrative holistic physician and was Chief Medical Officer for Genova Diagnostics, until he took on his new role at the IFM.
